WATERFRONT PLAN

Alexander Avenue Extension

This site spans from Lincoln Avenue to Willis Avenue and from East 132nd Street to the Harlem River, serving as an extension of the Lincoln Avenue Street End. While it is a key part of the Mott Haven-Port Morris waterfront, it is currently underutilized.

This coastal area is especially important for climate resilience, as it sits in a Zone B flood zone within a Special Mixed Use Industrial Area (SMIA) and experienced over three feet of flooding during Hurricane Sandy. The proposed improvements would help reduce future flooding risks for nearby industries and the waste transfer station.

Additionally, this site has long been recognized for its potential. It was included in Vision 2020: NYC Comprehensive Waterfront Plan and is part of the NYC Parks Department’s Harlem River Watershed and Natural Resources Management Plan for the Bronx.
