WATERFRONT PLAN

Stony Point Trail

This site is a narrow, unused stretch of shoreline that links the East 132nd Street Pier on the East River to Bronx Kill Waterfront Park to the south. Historically known as Stony Point, it offers sweeping views of the river in both directions. Currently, the land is owned by Action Environmental Systems, which operates a waste transfer facility. A tall fence separates the vacant shoreline from the facility, but with agreements from the owner, there is an opportunity to create a larger public trail with a living shoreline and added flood protections.

This site is especially important for climate resilience, as it sits in a Zone B flood area within a Special Mixed Use Industrial Area (SMIA), which suffered major impacts during Hurricane Sandy. Restoring this shoreline could help reduce future flooding risks for industrial sites and electrical infrastructure along the waterfront.
